Birthing Sweetly Seeking

Sweetly Seeking book cover

Author:

At one point in my life, I was sure I was going to be a doula, a person who holds sacred space during the birthing process.  The sweetness of welcoming in life, of holding space for a family to exist.  I went to Colorado and got my prenatal Yoga certification.  I devoured books on birthing.  I studied mamas.  I watched fathers slide into their appointed roles.  I witnessed families falling in love with their lives.  I was and still am mesmerized by this touchstone moment in time.  I welcomed the opportunity to be formally trained as a doula, but through the twists and turns of life, that role has never officially materialized.

It is only now that I feel like I am a book doula of sorts.  I’m birthing books instead of babies.  As a matter of fact, I feel that we are all doulas of our lives.  We are all asked to give birth to new ideas.  To wait in anticipation.  To stay with the contractions of life and arrive on the other side transformed.   When I look up the definition of a doula, the dictionary states that it is, “a professional who provides support and assistance to individuals or families.”  We so earnestly offer to support to others, why not offer it to ourselves as well?

I have been birthing my new book “Sweetly Seeking” since I was a kiddo.  People often ask me if I was formally trained as a writer, or an English major.  I chuckle and reply, “No, but I have been dreaming of becoming an author my whole life.”   I have been consistently curious about life.  I have had a willingness to sit with the remnants of death.  All the while, this cycle of life and death has made me want to live and not wonder what it would be like to truly step into my life.  How about you?  Are you feeling encouraged or inspired to more fully step into your life?  I hope so.

Sweetly Seeking is an invitation to conjure up more beauty in your life.  It is a call to slow down and savor all the glorious moments of life.  It is also an invitation to honestly be with the moments of life that feel too much to bear.  There are 224 pages of gorgeous colors, photos, prose and text to feast on.  Maybe a line or a word jumps off the page at you, and just maybe it is the nourishment that you needed to carry on with whatever you are giving birth to.

Sweetly Seeking is an ongoing work in my life.  It is another way that I can give birth in the world.  I long to inspire fierceness.  It tickles my soul when another feels heard.  It energizes me when others are passionately pursuing their uniqueness.  It humbles me when people say they have been touched by a word or a phrase.  We are meant to live our gifts.  Hopefully we have the courage to share them with ourselves and with the world.

It is my hope that I will be a book doula well into old age.  I just know that life will continue to offer me opportunities to share.  And it is with the most grateful heart that I say a hearty thank you to each and every one of you.  Thank you for holding a sacred space so that I can give birth to my second book babe, Sweetly Seeking: Living An Inspired Life.
