“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it.”
People often ask me what my inspiration was when I wrote Ode to Love. She’s about three feet tall, with the bluest ocean eyes. She often greets me with humongous hugs. She is totally a lover of life. She’s vocal about her needs. She is witty. She is smart. She is the dearest little heart. She is my niece. This half pint showed up three and a half years ago and ever since then, my heart just hasn’t been the same.
I remember the first day I met her, holding her seemed like time stood still. I remember telling her I was so grateful that she had chosen our family and that we would love her unconditionally. She is and was a little slice of perfection. I have been blessed enough to be in her life as she grows up and I have to say, being an aunt is pretty much the best job title ever.
When I wrote Ode to Love, I had experienced life with this tiny babe for about two years. Every time I was with her, I touched an even sweeter part of life. She got me in touch with my heart. I saw the little girl that lived within me. Her innocence. Her joy. Even her tears allowed me to see how beautiful it is to express how we are feeling in each moment.
Ode to Love is my tribute to this dear heart I am blessed enough to call my niece. She has brought me delights that even I can’t always capture with words. One of our most recent moments together she stared at me and exclaimed, “Aunt Sarah, you are a treasure.” My heart pretty much melted and I got a bit teary eyed. “Thank you, sweet girl, and so are you.”
It is my hope that Ode to Love reminds you that YOU are a treasure. No matter your age, it’s never too late; to show love, to offer love, to receive love. Let love guide your way. Make everyday a celebration of your unique and beautiful journey. Be willing to take down walls that keep you feeling separate. Have a willingness to re-evaluate love. Make sure you are tending to that tender little heart that lives inside your life. What does he/she need to feel safe and secure in the world? No matter our age, we still have that magical child that lives within.
“Rest in the simplicity of being you!”
